Congrats On Your New Floor
Congratulations! You have now completed your floor coating with Garage Floor Masters. Now that you have transformed your space, it is time to take proper care of it. Although our floor coatings are some of the top in the industry, they still require some floor care in order to function properly.
The floor coating we have installed is made specifically to protect your concrete or other material and withstand the daily wear and tear. These can be easily cleaned and last through dirt, chemicals, and more. Waxing or polishing your coating is not required in the after care. However, regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure that your floor performs to it’s optimal ability.
Cleaning may seem simple, but for floor coatings, you will want to ensure that you are not breaking down the coating or causing slips and falls.
After Application
Once we have applied the coating to your garage floor, you have to wait approximately 6 hours before walking on the floor. After 24 hours your floor coating will be fully cured and you can return to normal activity.
Garage Floor Masters Floor Care
As the proud owner of a newly coated floor, here are some steps you can take to ensure that the coating lasts for the rest of your concretes life.
Discourage Build-Up
A protective coating is not invincible and should be cleaned just like any other surface in your home. A common misconception is that floor coatings can repel dirt and grime. Floor coatings keep the buil-up from damaging your floor, but it can still build-up. Cleaning the floor coating by sweeping or using a nylon brush can help removed dirt, sand and other oils that are commonly tracked across the floor.
Build-up can become abrasive to the top layer of your floor coating, making it less protective and slip resistant.
Use Proper Cleaning Agents
Another tip to keep in mind is using the proper cleaning products for your floor. Garage Floor Masters recommends avoiding agents that will leave a film on the surface of your floor. Detergents and household soaps can leave a filmy substance on the top, which attacts more dirt and debris.
Avoid using stripping agents like citrus-based cleaners or corrosive chemical degreasers that can removed the top layer of your floor coating. Best practice is to use a PH neutral cleaner that is diluted with water to clean your floors.
Cleaning Procedures
The first step in cleaning your new flooring is to sweep the floor and remove any dirt or dust that has collected. You can use a dry mop or soft bristled broom to help remove any detached debris. Your floors are impermeable, but it is wise to remove abrasive materials from the top of the floor.
Next, make sure that you have your diluted PH neutral cleaning agent. Wet the floor with clean water, then mop using the cleaning solution. We recommend a cleaner like Simple Green. Once you have the liquid down, you can use a squeegee or wet-vacuum to remove the excess water.
If there is a high amount of grime, the floor may need a second rinse. Allow the floor to dry before you walk or drive on it, to prevent more grime sticking to the floor and accidents.
More Tips
If you can’t seem to remove the grime or build-up completely, you can use a small amount of acetone solvent to help fight the stubborn stain. Do not use acetone with hydro-carbon solvents. Allow the acetone to sit for a couple hours before you wipe it away using a rag or sponge soaked in clean water.
If you decide that pressure washing your coated floors is the best option, make sure that the water pressure is no higher than 1000 PSI. Avoid using a pressure washer too close to the floor and don’t use the pulsating or rotating nozzle heads. This will damage the coating on your floor.
