Chip and Flake Flooring Design
Chip and Flake flooring may sound counterintuitive, but the system of this coating combines the highest quality blended vinyl flakes from epoxy and polyaspartic coatings to create a more functional and aesthetically pleasing floor. Chip and Flake coating suits a variety of garage designs and can be tailored to your specific design preferences. There are options for lightly textured or a completely smooth surface. Choosing a Chip and Flake floor adds a unique touch to your garage and combines the durable power of both epoxy and polyaspartic to create a strong bonding coating.
Variety Of Blends
You can choose from a variety of blends that include different sizes of flakes and different colors. These Chip and Flake floor systems are finished off with a high-performance top coat that helps to ensure that the floor performs well with all the heavy traffic.
Vinyl or acrylic resin flakes are UV stable and come in over 150 colors. They also range in size from 1” in diameter to 1/32” to give you a custom look. The most common size is around ¼”. The smaller the flakes, the more solution, and flakes will be needed to fully coat your garage floor. If you are wanting a more light or medium coverage, the amount of product that will be needed can vary.
Grouts and top coats can also be modified to your liking. Add more texture or less depending on what you feel your home needs. Top coats can be included to increase the amount of traction that your floor has. You also have the option of choosing between a matte, satin, or high gloss finish for the top coat.
A top coat helps protect the coating from UV rays, as well as the color coat for your floor. A clear top coat also helps your floor look thicker and more luxurious than it is.
Keep in mind that if you are going to be consistently dropping small objects such as screws, bolts, staples, or other objects that can be lost easily, Chip and Flake floor might not be the right option for you.
Since the flakes can look confusing and hide the smaller similar colored objects, you can either choose a bigger flake size or choose a more solid floor coating. Working on cars is already frustrating as it is, save yourself some time in searching for small objects by avoiding choosing the wrong coating for your needs.
